Choosing the Right Hooks for Jigging & Lures

Choosing the Right Hooks for Jigging & Lures

At Rok Max, we understand that a key part of success is having gear that you trust. That’s why our lure, popping & jigging replacement hooks collection is all about meeting the demands of anglers targeting hard fighting saltwater predators.

Whether you’re upgrading or replacing assist hooks on your jigs or swapping out trebles for replacement inline singles, our range combines precision-built components that are unmatched for hooking power and durability. Here are a few questions we are regularly asked about choosing replacement hooks:

What size Single Inline Hooks should I replace the Treble hooks on my lures with?

We advise you to measure the treble hooks at their widest point then look for a replacement Inline Single that has a gape that closely matches that measurement.

My jigs have 2 metal rings at the top - which one should I tie the line on to?

Jigs should be rigged with a split ring that attaches to the wire loop at the top of the jig, a solid ring is then fixed to the split ring. Always connect assist hooks to the solid ring and also tie your leader to the solid ring.

Is it ok to use an assist hook on a popper or stickbait?

Yes – attach a solid ring to the split ring on the front of the popper and loop the assist hook onto that. With a stickbait you might prefer to attach the assist hook to the hook hanger further back on the underside of the lure. Use a solid ring to loop the assist on to. The cord on the assist will prevent hooked fish from levering the hook out.
